Hello and Welcome!

I’m  Bev Rogan and Gathered Gratitude is my cyber home. I’m so happy your here!

Boy, suddenly what seemed like such a wonderful idea a few months ago now has me wondering “What the heck was I thinking?” How on earth am I going to write an “About” page that welcomes total strangers and invites them in long enough to hopefully capture their interest? Who was I kidding!

I can only tell you that with the thousands of blogs out there I’m truly grateful for Lady luck or Constance curiosity for placing you in my path and I just hope that you find a little something here that resonates with you or that makes you glad you stopped by.

I’ve got so much to tell you!  So many things to share and I can hardly wait to start by telling you the story behind “Gathered Gratitude” but first I think I should make a proper introduction.

Oh boy, deep breath . . . this is it. That whole business about putting yourself out there but I’m taking the advice of  a wonderful mentor (more to follow on one of those people you meet that are truly life changing) and I’m diving-in. So I’m hoping you’ll be gentle as these are early days . . . baby steps if you will.

I live in Calgary, Alberta with my husband Dave and fur daughter Sophie, a beautiful golden retriever who our children joke has had more pictures taken of her than them (probably more true than funny if I’m honest) and I’m the fiercely proud Mom of my daughter Heather and son Brad who also live in Calgary and who are both married to the most wonderful partners. Family means everything to me and it never escapes me for a second just how fortunate I am.

Another thing I should tell you is that I’m extremely passionate about photography to the point my family jokes that they forget what I look like sometimes but it’s when I’m behind the lens of my camera that I’m in my element. Time stands still and I get completely absorbed in the beauty around me. It’s in these moments that I regain perspective and focus. (no pun intended!)

I’ve often said that I think everyone should carry a camera. When you look through that viewfinder you’re constantly looking for the beauty in life and you find yourself appreciating things you once took for granted. Things like the  light, long reaching shadows . . the  finer details in life and you begin to see the world open up before you in ways you never imagined. It’s those moments and more I want to share with you.

This past month has been quite the milestone as my husband and I became grandparents for the first time (a perfect bouncing baby girl) and then 6 weeks later we welcomed our wonderful new son-in-law into the family. I can honestly tell you I thought my heart was going to burst. Life just simply can’t get much better than that can it?

My decision to start a blog wasn’t just about that though. I mean it’s a LOT to be grateful for and all but its more about wanting to focus on and share the positive and wonderful things in his world. The things I’m so incredibly fortunate to see or stumble upon.

I remember sometime ago reading a quote by Oprah Winfrey.  Maybe you’ve come across it too? Oprah said, “What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it. Opportunities, relationships, even money flowed my way when I learned to be grateful no matter what happened in my life.”

It sounds pretty darn good right! After all who wouldn’t want to have exciting opportunities, improved relationships and some extra cash? We live in a time where life is pretty stressful and that stuff can really take a toll on a person.  Lets face it, the news doesn’t often have much of a positive slant to it and it can be pretty hard to pick yourself up at the end of the day. My hope is that you find a little something here that gives you a few moments to recharge or reset.

And so that’s a little snapshot of who I am and why I decided to start my blog but now its time to venture on to the business of the “birthing” of my blog. I hope you’ll say hello and introduce yourself before joining me there!
